I havn't done a perm in years, but have lots of experience with many successful results in the past. I permed my daughters hair yesterday which is coloured and cut long with layers. I used black perm rods because she wanted a large curl similar to when it has been curled with the hot conical wand (large barrel). I used clynol curly locks for all hair types (which I have always had success with this perm in the past. This perm product has never failed me before. I've been through every step in my mind and can't think of anything I've done incorrectly. I wound the rods with good tension. The curl test looked ready (had a good S shape) and it still looked curly when I neutralised it and when I'd rinsed it apart from the top and ends which did still look straighter and only slightly bendy. I dried it with the diffuser. Now it's dry, it looks straight with more body and a very slight wave. Not much different to her hair before the perm. I don't pre damp (which it does recommend you do on the bottle) because I found in the past that perms did not take if I wound with perm solution because it was on for too long. However, I'm not sure if I left this perm on for long enough, even though I left it for 10 minutes & the bottle says 3-8 mins and a maximum of 10 mins and the test curl showed an S shape.  I shampooed her her with a neutral shampoo before the perm (no conditioner) and  did not shampoo after, just conditioned. It looks even straighter today than it did yesterday Confused!
