New girl started 2day - got me thinking - how awful were our 1st days, fresh out of college, or beginning a new apprenticeship?

Personally, i think starting a new job after 3 years of college has to be the worst. You leave full of optimism, thinking that you are going to be the next big thing - and then u start your first day .........

...............and you realise that there is so much more to learn - and i guess that's the biggest lesson - you never stop learning. U will never fulfill every permutation of colouring, will never combine every technique because hairdressing just keeps evolving ..... every manufacturer is constantly working on new products to keep our clients constantly wanting more. Top salons are constantly bringing forward new collections for us to get excited about. Stylists, both new and experienced, are discovering new techniques that will build their repertoire, ongoing training constantly fills the gaps in our ever expanding knowledge of our craft..............

...I don't think that there are many industries like ours - only fashion, but that in itself is so directly linked to our own that one could not function without the other.

I cannot fathom the confidence that i have when i pick up a pair of scissors, or wield a tint brush - the absolute belief i have in myself and my client that the outcome will be nothing more than my best - yet an insatiable belief that i will create something even better the next time.

When i think of the scared young girl who started her first day, all those years ago ...... i cannot believe how far i have come .......... and how far i have yet to go.

And i am still as excited by it 2day as i was then xxxxxx

How about u?

p.s. See - Polly can be eloquent without being sarcastic!

 Phew! I am spent! lol

Perception is such a flexible tool, it says so much about the way we read things

Hi Everyone
I would love to leave my tangles behind!!! My gripe is clients not turning up for their appointments and then ringing a couple of days later to say they forgot!! How does everyone else cope with this?

Sure your dream is realistic, yes polly was a star in here, sorely missed, its a shame she gave up hairdressing, went off to teach Spanish, says she is happy though, she was doing so well, I thought she could go all the way in the hairdressing world,
